Man’s Search for Meaning

1. Logotherapy basically focuses on the meaning of human existence and one’s search for
meaning. According to logotherapy, finding meaning in your life is your motivational force
to survive.
2. Everyone has their own specific job they want to carry out in life. They do whatever it
takes to get it to reach happiness and to find their “meaning”.
3. In accordance to logotherapy, the meaning of life is discovered by creating work or
deed. Also to experience something that makes you feel whole.
4. Logotherapy also falls into the category of love. With love you can share your
experiences with another human and tell them everything about yourself and you’ll know
everything about them.
5. Last, even though suffering is not usually meant to find meaning in your life, you could
possibly find meaning even though you are; it’s unavoidable. We can find meaning even if
we are confronted with a hopeless situation. Which is basically how logotherapy got
started.

Viktor Frankl applied his logotherapy to the old man with realization. The old man lost his wife
and what Frankl made him realize is that it is better for his wife not to be suffering because he is dead.
The old man found that it was better for her to be dead than in anguish.
