Missing the Light

Walking alone on an empty road,
my pain flows through me.
The moon shines down
making me visible for all to see.

Happiness leaves
As the light leaves the earth,
slowly so that you never really notice.
Until all at once it's dark
the light but a memory.

A memory of times long past.
When regret stayed in the shadows
and sorrow unknown,
never rose to meet me.

But innocence fades
darkness creeps in,
and once you're there
it's hard to find the place
where the sun shines again.
