A poem by me.

Open your eyes.
Free your mind.
Break the chains that bind you to yourself.
Fall back.
Zoom out.
Watch from a distance.
Imagine …

Right now,
The universe expands into a void,
So empty, it makes Nothing substantial.
Stars explode.
Planets orbit.
Gravity pulls.
The Earth turns.
Tectonic plates shift
And shudder.
Storms rage.
Tides change.
Rivers flow.
Creatures migrate.
Time continues its relentless pace.

In this very moment,
Cities expand, upward and outward.
Electricity surges through twisted wires
To light up empty rooms.
Lifeless robots flock to train stations.
Zombies crawl out of beds
With carpet tongues and throbbing headaches.
Young brides choke out the words, “I do”.

Somewhere,
A child, with infinite potential,
Is aborted at three months.
Tears splatter on the page of a sad story.
A teenager reads from paper
That shudders in nervous fingers.
An artist applies the finishing touches.
A nameless dog barks in the dark.
A black car turns left.
A spider scuttles.
A lie is told.

You’re minutes older now.
You’ve blinked a few more times.
Your heart beats out its rhythm.
A cell in your body divides.
You’re back in you.

Breathe in deep.
Look around.
Clutch the fabric of your life,
Draw it tight around you.
It’s yours.
Your very own,
Your precious little picture.

But, did you catch a glimpse of something
Big?
Can you see yourself from a distance?
A single pixel in the midst of
A massive picture.
What colour is your life?
