SHADOWS OF DARKNESS

Inspiration for a poem in the wee hours of the morn -

Twilight comes softly, the shadows of darkness
appear as if bidden by the need to rest tonight.
I survived to live another day, without question.
The darkness gives me solitude met with delight.

How many more days, how many more nights?
The answers are hidden somewhere in the haze.
It is not for a mortal to know the answers to all
the questions he asks about the number of days.

'Tis better by far to look for the eternal light
that will come in dreams, just out of our reach.
Until we are called, the quest is elusive at best.
Ours is but to learn and it is but His to teach.

Prepare for the shadows but remember the light
that burns brightly within us throughout our lives.
The morning will come, both here and hereafter -
only the blessed goodness somehow survives.

Twilight comes softly, the shadows of darkness
appear as if bidden by the need to rest tonight.
I survived to live another day, without question.
The darkness gives me solitude met with delight
