Such the Pharisee

I am such a Pharisee; I am so much like Saul
My works and morals God disdains
My salvation wholly false

I tried to scale the mountain, jump the canyon, run the course
But found that every step I made
Always came up short

I simply couldn't make the cut; in so much did I lack
I had found my breaking point
I had turned my back

Never had I felt so small as when I walked away
Never had I felt so sad
So alone, so ashamed

It occured to me that I became the very thing I hate
I had no salvation
I only had my hate

But suddenly the truth arose and I will never be the same
For God had come and died for me
God already paved the way

If only I had noticed this sooner than I did
I could have lived the truth
Instead of dying into it
