Dealing with loss
Rain cascaded down the roof
and dripped off the changing oak leaves of neighborhood trees.
The crisp white shirt pressed closer to her breast
as she brought it tighter in her lonely embrace.
Supper was cold, and the chill lingered throughout the house,
by the window in her room and the empty bed.
Only his shirt kept her warm and comforted
when his body no longer could.
