Where have all the monsters gone? (Flash fiction)
Thanks...
By - Robert Aaron Goldsborough

In answer to the prayers of a thousand misguided children, the monsters came from under the beds and spoke.  They stood on a thousand legs and snarled with a thousand mouths.  The sounds came together in one triumphant last growl that ceased the mumblings of children at bedtime.  Parents recanted and apologized for centuries of disbelief.  The children screamed and offered their parents to the monsters as a peace offering.  The monsters accepted and approached.  At the very last second before the first mother could be eaten a man appeared, seemingly from nowhere, and issued a final statement.  He said that it was quite impossible for these monstrosities to actually exist.  The little man presented charts and graphs and religious texts proving that the myth of monsters was exactly that; a myth.  The monsters stood still and heard every word, scratched their thousands of heads and crawled back under their beds.  The parents rejoiced.  The children cried, but resumed their prayers.
