Did Kindle cause the quake from her own mind?

When Friday finally came around Kindle was relieved. Madeline had given Kindle half of the day off to close the shop early so Madeline could go to the Braden's house. Kindle agreed to come in Saturday morning to help unload.
When she left work at noon, Kindle went straight home. She had until five before Ann would get off of work and want to go out. Kindle went ahead and took her shower and straightened her hair. She kept looking over at the match book on her kitchen counter. Jake had written his number on it last weekend and Kindle had decided that she would call him tonight. Kindle didn't want to call him when Ann was over, so when four o'clock rolled around she picked up the phone. After one ring he picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hey, is Jake there?"
"This is him."
Kindle paused for a second. "Hi Jake, this is Kindle." She said then stopped and waited for him to remember who she was.
"Kindle, you finally decided to call?" Jake said jokingly. "I thought I was going to have to ask around at your complex and find out where you lived."
"Really? Are you going to stalk me Jake?" Kindle joked back.
"No, I think you are stalking me. You know breaking my drink and everything just to talk to me."
"Very funny," Kindle said smiling and changed the subject quickly. "What are you doing tonight?" she asked.
"I am actually going out with a beautiful girl," he started.
"Oh." Kindle said disappointed.
"Kindle," Jake laughed. "You are the beautiful girl I am going out with tonight. Isn't that why you called?"
Kindle paused, "Yes, that is why I called, where are we going?" she asked giving him the chance to ask her out now.
"Todd and I had already planned on going to Luke's, you can join us."
"Does Todd have a date?"
"No"
"Then I will bring Ann"
Kindle told Ann that she had the night planned, and when she pressed for the details, Kindle informed her of the conversation she had with Jake. Ann was ecstatic that Kindle had finally admitted her feelings for Jake, and even more excited that Kindle had found her a date.
When Jake called from out front of the complex Kindle couldn't keep the smile off of her face, and Ann could tell. She just smiled back and led the way down stairs. The girls looked around for a moment and saw a black explorer parked in front of the apartment. Jake had the window rolled down and was motioning them over.
"Hey," Ann said as she got into the back seat next to Todd.
Kindle got into the passenger seat next the Jake who was driving; she couldn't help but feel nervous. Kindle smiled when she noticed that Jake smelled the same way he did when they had shared a cab together last weekend.
When they got to Luke's Kindle wasn't nervous any more, they had joked and laughed the entire ride there. Once inside they had even more fun. There was a band and Kindle found that Jake seemed to know every one there. He introduced her as his date which made her smile and everyone having fun. When Kindle excused herself to go to the bathroom she was in a great mood. It reminded her of home where she knew everyone. She missed the social life that she used to have. Ever since she had moved away, she had been a sort of a loner. With the exception of Ann she hadn't made any other friends. When she got back to the group she stood to the side listening to their conversation and sipping on her drink. When Jake realized she was standing there he smiled and held out his hand. When she took it he led her to a corner of the room away from the crowd.
"Are you having fun?" he asked.
"Yeah," Kindle replied.
Kindle finished her drink then looked at Jake. "Can we go talk somewhere more quiet?" Kindle asked.
"We can go to my car."
When they got to the car Jake turned around to face her and was very surprised when Kindle leaned in and began kissing him. Once she started she couldn't stop. It was not until they heard a loud rap at the window did their lips part. When Kindle looked at who was knocking she was astonished. Clair was standing there and Lindsay was standing a couple of feet away looking very upset. Kindle sat back in her seat as Jake rolled down the window.
"Jake, what the hell are you doing?" she said like she was his mother. "Get out of the car." She ordered.
"No," Jake refused. He sounded a little embarrassed and very angry.
Clair took a deep breath and Jake seemed to know exactly what she was about to do.
"Fine," He caved and quickly got out of the car and shut the door.
Kindle was officially confused. She listened hard to try and hear the conversation that was going on outside of the car. Why would he listen to Clair and what could they be talking about? Kindle noticed that Lindsay didn't get involved in the conversation. She just stood off to the side listening and trying not to look out of place. Kindle decided to get out of the car and call a cab. By the time the cab came she would be done telling Ann that she was going home.
But one thing that she heard come out of Clair's mouth changed her entire plan.
"She is a Witch too." Clair yelled as she met Kindle's eyes.
Kindle couldn't take it any more. Clair was going to ruin the chance she had at a relationship with Jake. "Who the hell do you think you are?" Kindle yelled back as she finished rounding the car. She walked right up to Clair and got right in her face. "Why don't you mind your own business?"
Clair smirked. "Jake is my business." She stated. "He is my brother."
That comment stabbed Kindle like a knife. She looked at Jake for answers, her head was swimming. There was an enormous amount of emotion building inside her.
Kindle's ears seemed to be clogged with wax and she had tunnel vision. This lasted forever in her mind until the feeling drained out of her body downward to her feet. When it reached the ground Kindle could feel a small but apparent quake in the earth. The street light above her went out for only a second and when it came back on the bulb broke. At the same time a couple of car alarms in the area began to go off.
When all of the confusion stopped she saw the occupants of Luke's pouring out of its doors to see what was going on. Some people were looking up in the sky searching for a storm and others were talking between themselves. Kindle's vision and hearing came back quickly and time seemed to speed up rapidly like the whole thing had happened in slow motion. Jake looked shocked and Clair was confused.
"What did you say?" Clair hissed at Kindle.
Kindle looked at her with the same confused look that Clair had given off. "Excuse me?" Kindle questioned.
Jake grabbed her arm and turned her around to face him. "You said you were sorry." He whispered. "Sorry for what?" he asked. Kindle stood there stunned for a second. But Jake took things into his own hands. He told Kindle to get in the car and she did. They drove to her apartment and Kindle lead the way to her door. Kindle didn't even think about the mirror sitting against the wall when she opened the door and let him inside. Her heart was still racing from the excitement. She didn't know what happened in the parking lot of Luke's but she was going through every possible scenario. Could there have been thunder that made the car alarms go off, or maybe an earthquake?
"What happened out there?" Jake asked.
Kindle broke out of her inner monologue and stood there stunned. "I don't know what you are talking about." She lied. Kindle knew exactly what he was talking about she just didn't know what happened.
"Why don't you talk to me? What are you so afraid of?" Jake said kind of loudly obviously getting frustrated.
"What makes you think I owe you an explanation for everything? I hardly even know you." Kindle argued.
"You are not even trying to get to know me. I want to help, and I definitely want to find out what happened out there." Jake argued.
"Well lying to me is not going to help me open up to you."
"I didn't lie." Jake retorted.
"Not telling me that Clair is your sister when we were talking in the cab is the same as lying. You knew she and I don't get along and you kept it from me. How is that not lying?" Kindle was confused and angry.
"I'm sorry. I just didn't think it was important. What I would like to know is how you caused an earthquake in the middle of the street."
Kindle sat down wondering the same thing. She ran the event over and over in her head. "I don't know." She said finally.
Jake sat down next to her in silence. When he realized she wasn't going to elaborate he began to look around and that is when he spotted the mirror. He walked over and picked it up. "I haven't seen this mirror in years." He changed the subject. "I used to go over to Clint Braden's house all of the time and his mother used to tell us stories about this mirror. I used to think she made them up, but the strange thing is that you seem to be like the woman in the legend."
"What are you talking about? What woman." Kindle questioned obviously a little curious about where he was going with this.
Then Jake began to explain. "Well, Clint's mother was a very strange woman. She was actually the town psychic. She always told us stories about all kinds of things. One Legend she said was completely true.
Every second generation a woman would become drawn to the mirror. She was some sort of powerful Witch that would protect the craft and help keep it secret. Rachael believed that the woman was necessary in keeping order to the world. She knew that magic is a powerful thing and that people would be tempted to use it for personal gain."
"Are you trying to say that you think that because I bought this mirror from Clint I am now some kind of powerful witch?" She couldn't help but be intrigued by his story. "I don't know what happened tonight. I don't know if I did it or if it was something else. All I know is something strange happened and you seem to think that I am some kind of character in a fairy tale." Kindle needed to think. "I think you should go."
"I think you should lighten up." Jake stated.
"What?" Kindle was taken aback.
"You always kick me out or shut me down when things don't go your way. Usually I wouldn't even try and bother with a girl that does that, but can't seem to get you out of my head."
Kindle couldn't help but smile. "Ok, I'm sorry. But could we just forget what happened earlier tonight?"
"I don't know if I can forget it, but I will let it go for now." He agreed. "I had fun tonight, especially when you kissed me." He said then leaned in for another.
Kindle liked that part too.
