A poem about unrequited love...
Funny Things
By Sandra Parker
April 1987

He is like a moonbeam beautiful to see,
shining on to Heaven shining on to me.
The funny thing with moonbeams
is that they are too much.
They are beautiful to look at,
but far away to touch.

His eyes are like the ocean
shades of blue and shades of green.
Sometimes they are intense,
sometimes calm and serene.
The funny thing with oceans
is that they never stay.
They meet you on a sandy shore
and immediately pull away.

I'd love to feel his warmth
as he takes me in his arms.
I'd feel secure and loved
enraptured by his charms.
The funny thing with loving
is that you must get close.
He is a bright point of light,
and I only a ghost.

If only I had the courage
to tell him how I feel.
Would he love me or reject me?
To him would I be real?
The funny thing with telling
is that I am too shy.
My tongue gets much too thick
each time he passes by.

To most he is but a man
disheveled and aloof.
He annoys them with his humor
to them he is a goof-

-but to me he is an angel
who flies on gossamer wings.
a beautiful creation of God
who abounds in funny things.

I wrote this poem a good 20 years ago. It was written about a man who I worked with that I had a crush on. He was too old for me yet I still fancied him. I don't think he ever knew how I felt. One night in my lonely dark apartment, while drowning in self pity I churned this out.
