Revised with the help of Jenny and later my SP friends
We have a mom, friend, named Elly,
who had six kids from her belly.
She grew up on a farm,
knitted lots with some yarn.
She used to can and make jelly.

She married a guy she adored,
a navy man named Theodore.
He was a good spouse,
he built her a house
and helped her raise children galore.

She's smart and thinks numbers are fun,
makes riddles to give everyone.
She gives us candy
which is quite dandy,
a prize to her daughter or son.

When shopping, she'll buy if on sale.
Much spending would cause her to quail.
Made her clothes and our clothes,
made doll clothes with velcroes.
Spending habits help her prevail.

Need a haircut, a perm, go see her.
Call her first or she might not be there.
She is quite busy you know,
bowling, golfing, or a show,
or she might be home playing solitaire.

Two hips, some heart, one knee - surgery,
last knee now hurts, but "No more for me!"
She's said, "I might fall down
when no one is around,
just give me cortisone or I'll flee."

Long time ago there was a young lady,
who this year in '08 will be eighty.
We have written this rhyme,
cuz July is the time -
that we will celebrate in the shade-e.
