the possibility of losing something that was never mine to begin with.
It was not supposed to happen.
A few cryptic words exchanged ... Understood.
Suddenly the whirlwind caught us;
Unprepared and vulnerable ... Searching.
You belong to someone else,
As do I ... Found, serendipity.
Sneaking precious seconds ‘alone'.
Spiralling out of control ... Overwhelmed.
We spoke of love and passion ... Possibilities.
For a few secluded moments,
Covered limbs collided ... Tangled.
Was it lust disguised as something more?
It was not supposed to feel this way.
My mind argues, "You are just busy with her".
My heart reads a much different truth;
As the messages become fewer ... Shorter;
Words become just words again.
Meaningless exchanges.
Their true intent hidden within the white spaces.
I want to reach out and shake you ... Remember.
I want to reel you back in ... Fool's errand.
Instead, I add yet another brick, and another,
To my crumbled wall of sensibility.
With hopes that in tomorrow's light,
It will be grand enough and strong enough,
To shield my heart ... Protect it,
From the unjustifiable pain that I feel.
