This is a discription of useful writing-aid sites for the aspiring author
I have recently started writing a fantasy. How long it will be and how it will turn out I have yet to discover. The basic story is that of a winged girl who travels the world collecting odd items and getting into trouble in the process. That's the easy part, coming up with the basic story, but when it comes to actually writing the story that's when I run into trouble. I don't know how to continue my story, so I drop it and never finish the story. This time will be different, though. And if you're interested in reading my story as I write it, you can look up "The Magpie Chronicles" I haven't got much yet, but I'll update it as often as I can.
I have been doing research on the internet and have found an excellent site that I would reccomend to any aspiring writers. The site is: http://www.oneofus.co.uk/how_to/how_to_create_fantasy_worlds/ Go to the bottom of this page and click "Home" to get to more brilliant writing tips. Another site I have found, which may be better than the above mentioned site, is http://www.fictionfactor.com/articles.html I have found this to a top rate site for helping aspiring authors and I highly recommend this site to anyone needing help with their writing. It is a fairly easy site to use and has a lot of info. This is a very good site to use.
As I do more research I have found more sites that I find useful as writing tools for the fantasy writer. The first site is extremely good and it is: http://www.squido.com/fantasyfictionwriting The second site is fair and it is: http://www.electricdragoncafe.com/writing/ And the third site is: http://fictionwriting.bellaonline.com/Site.asp These three sites are all fairly good and easy to use, but the first listed is the best of the three. These sites are definately good sites to check out.
I have found several sites that mention world building. What this means is that you build your world, how it looks, weather, inhabitants, animals, etc. These sites mention that this should be the first step when writing your story, so that it is easier to write because you already have your world built and you don't have to come up with your world as you write. If you're interested in this process the sites are below: http://melkot.com/mechanics/map-guide.html
http://newroads.sppedlimit.org.uk/fantasy/
http://www.zombienirvana.com/?=p58
http://www.seventhsanctum.com/index-name.php
Whether these sites are any good I don't know because I haven't had the time to really check them out. I hope you try world building and have fun with it.
I have suggested these sites to try and help any of you who read this, but I would recommend that you still do your own research. These sites might be good to use, but they're not the only ones and may not even be the best. I hope that I have helped and good luck!
