The Best Smiles...Are Hard to Come By

"Make a decision!" her mother would scream.
She stomped upstairs and loudly slammed her door.
Cursed she thought she was, for ne'er would she dream,
Nightmares that came were the same as before.

In the daytime she always wore a smile;
Infatuated with her obsession...
Often times I stared at her for a while,
As she toyed with her new possession.

Once she entered her house the smile was gone,
The decision she had made: the needle.
Again she became the heroin's pawn.
For days to come, she would grow more feeble.

But in the daytime I saw her smiling.
