A dream, a desire, and one day, perhaps a reality
A Wish By A Pond

Gushing from the mouths of stone men,
Into granite-lipped basins
Where irises dabble their feet
And rustle to a passing wind,
The water fills the garden with its rushing,
In the midst of the quiet of low-hanging trees.

Splashing down moss-covered steps
The water falls so gracefully,
Gurgling, running with its cool murmur.

And closing my eyes, I tossed a coin,
And I wished for night and for you;
To have you there beside me,
Holding me close in your embrace.

For without you, my soul is never warm,
My spirit never sings with joy
And my shadow never in secret dances.

My fingers trail along the pool's edge,
Rippling the water to change its sound
As I smile just softly, my thoughts on you,
And wish for you with all of my heart.

Will I ever have you here beside me,
Gazing at our reflection in the pond? Yes.
But how long until our hands will brush,
How many heartbeats must pass
Before we sit together, old friends?

Does it matter? Truly not,
And this I know as I toss another coin,
The silly wish of a girl in love,
A wish to simply remain in your heart.

For in your heart I am happy,
In your heart I am free.
And though I long to have you near me,
I believe that such wishes come true.

So I smile and stroke the heavy head of a rose,
Thinking only of you, my someday-husband,
And knowing that no matter how long the wait,
It will be short compared to the length of our love
Which is undying, woven with the threads of time.
