Freedom

Freedom

Freedom is a relationship
where I am challenged
to acheive what it is
that burns in my soul
without jealousy or spite,
without threat or domination.

Freedom is having a partner
who is not afraid to let me go
for a moment without fear
of being left alone, forever,
knowing the less he holds me,
the more he has of me to love.

Freedom is being a child
who learned from my mother
that it was okay to paint a frog purple,
or the sky green, if that's how I saw it
and that a moment of creative expression
was worth more than the mess it made.

Freedom is living in a country
where I can speak my mind
or choose not to, without fear
of ignorance and hate,
judgement, or retribution
by those who don't agree.

Freedom is being myself, 
however I was made,
for what I chose to do with my life
for the language I speak,
and the beliefs I hold or question,
without regret or apology.

Freedom is being ourselves,
without being told who to be,
and knowing deep inside that
every single one of us
has something this world needs
that only we can provide.

Freedom

Freedom is an afternoon alone
With no expectations from work or home.

A long drive with nowhere to be
For at least two hours or three

Those moments after the kids fall asleep
Time on your own for hobbies you keep

To make a mistake without repercussions
To receive forgiveness for meaningless blunders

Speaking about your beliefs without fear
Being unashamed to cry a few tears

Living in harmony with others around you
Without feeling hate for creeds you subscribe to

Freedom is knowing you are just fine
The way your God made you, in His image divine.
