I wrote this not long ago, and I really liked it.
The lazy days of summer
Fade away with resistance,
And the impending death
Of the season burdens
Trees thriving in vigor.

The veins pulsate with life,
Like a heart, steady.
But knowing death comes
All too soon.

Beyond windows of houses
Neatly laid,
A worn pallet
Of ancient artist displayed.

As the autumn arises
From the haziness of
Summer, trees are
Emasculated by cold.

Frigid winds will
Encompass soon the bodies
That lie with exposed
Prominence upon arduous hill.

Struggling cropsmen complete
The final harvest,
Thinking of spring
When they can begin again.

Eyes watch as darkness
Pulls away the light
The once flooded
A crevice unknown.

The scathed shadows
Divert attention,
Provoke nervous energy,
Bite into skin.

As blood drips
To the floor,
A solemn soul vaguely
Remembers
A pitiful battle lost.
