Angels

Like a shadow behind me lost
Unseen
Trailing its languid
Wrath
Biting bitter memory
It seems
Clinging mercilessly
To buried dreams

Like a shadow leaping it
fouls my path
tainting the way
with melancholic laugh
deceptive sunbeams
pledging  brighter day
mocking the darkness
with teasing play

The dancing shadows are no more
night smiles welcome
through a closing door
Warm comfort found in that dark embrace
No more to please
in this hopeless race
To fight no more
in a battle
forlorn
surrender instead
  to become reborn

The fight is lost
The shadows are gone
The angels victorious
No longer alone
