I wrote this for my only daughters high school graduation.
Papa Dadda & Pumpkin’

As my daughter’s graduation nears,
I’m filled again with hopes and fears.

She’s on my mind throughout the day,
at night the  memories carry me away.

I travel to a place and time,
when my baby girl was only mine.

Big blue eyes and skin so fair,
flowing curls of golden hair.

Sunsuit’s full of colors bright,
flannel jammy’s for nightie-night.

Ruffled panties under a dress of lace,
Oh, how much I miss this place!

Chasing butterflies’ on the run,
sing and dance ‘till day is done.

Too quickly pass the days and years,
I watch her now, eyes wet with tears.

Across the podium she proudly strolls,
journeys end from a long hard road.

I turn and look at the path well worn,
again from me, my heart is torn.

I tried to keep her safe, as Daddy’s always do,
yet my mistakes, were none too few.

A woman now, my baby girl,
all grown up in a grown up world!

I’m so proud of her and at the same time sad,
would I’d been a better Dad.

But my love for her runs true and deep,
the memories are all mine to keep!

More than life itself, I love her now,
and she loves me , I just know somehow.

But in my heart she’ll always be,
my baby girl, just her and me.

So congratulations, my precious child,
you give me so much joy, with each sweet smile.

I’ll walk beside you forever and a day,
and in my mind, I’ll still watch you play.

I’ll try again to keep you safe from harm,
And save a place for you in my loving arms!
