Just something that came to me around midnight... as always.
The years pass and the days grow long,
He's been gone awhile now,
And probably thinks we've all forgotten,
She's losing hope that he'll ever make it back,
It all blends together, distant past,
The promises he made,
Too always keep her safe,

They said if you love someone you have to let them go,
She believed them and now she's all alone,
If they care for you then they'll return someday,
She still stands here waiting,

Watching as the sun sets,
Maybe tomorrow,
He'll come home,
Staring at the stars,
She just can't sleep,
She can't do anything,
The clouds will come,
And the rain will fall,
And she'll sit there in the midst of it all,
She loved him so she let him go,
Now she regrets it,
Will he ever come home?

He had these dreams,
Too big for this town,
Too big to just let them be,
He wanted to reach the stars,
Did he ever get that far?
Or did he fall apart?
All questions of a broken heart,
The song of a broken angel,

Watching as the sun sets,
Maybe tomorrow,
He'll come home,
Staring at the stars,
She just can't sleep,
She can't do anything,
The clouds will come,
And the rain will fall,
And she'll sit there in the midst of it all,
She loved him so she let him go,
Now she regrets it,
Will he ever come home?

Tear drops fall but the pain begins to fade,
There's a hole in her heart,
And the questions will always remain,
Is he out there,
Did he forget about her?
Did he finally reach the stars?
Or did he fall from them, away from grace,
Too ashamed to come back and face,
Everything he left behind,

Watching as the sun sets,
She knows tomorrow,
He won't come home,
Staring at the stars,
Nearly asleep,
She can't do anything to get him back,
The clouds will come,
And the rain will fall,
But the sun will break through it all,
She loved him so she let him go,
If only she'd known,
He wouldn't come home.

Honestly? I don't know that I like this.... at all. It's just.... I don't think it's finished. There's still sections of it that I'm playing around with - like changing 'broken angel' to 'fallen angel'. My worry there is that the meaning will get flipped around, since a 'fallen angel' is technically considered to be a 'demon', so in that sense broken seems to work better.... but I still keep going back to fallen for some reason. Also playing around with the 'nearly asleep' line. I keep changing that to all sorts of things.... currently debating between 'nearly', 'almost', and 'half-way'. There's a few other things too.... so as you can see I'm not 100%, completely happy with it at the moment..... But anyway, whether you liked it or not, send a review in. I appreciate it. Thanks.
