A war hero when he bid adieu
He believed in the Red, White, and Blue
For the four tours spent in Vietnam
He was an average American
He had not spoken about Saigon
In hand to hand combat---father, son

The time he had spent in old Da Nang
For the chiming bells that freedom rang
And time he had spent with old Jim Beam
To wipe away the things he had seen
In jungles half way across the earth
Pushed away doubts of what it is worth

I asked him one day if he had killed
And the tears from his eyes freely spilled
As I watched this man break down and cry
Attempting to begin his reply
Eons slowly seemed to pass us by
Before he began to tell me why

He had killed a man that he might live
And that he had hoped God would forgive
The hell he'd known---the price he had paid
For the promise as a young man made
Would not linger on now, past the grave
Marine, fighter, warrior, hero, brave

Prostitutes aren't the whores of wars
The whores line Washington's corridors
Very real and much more highly paid
Than the wages any young soldier made
Line the pockets of our elected
Those we believed and we selected

Propaganda spin that we accept
Homeland Security will now protect
As their "truths and sleuths" fuel freedom's death
While another soldier gasps his last breath...
My father believed his life would pay
For the freedoms they would take away

No questions asked about what they have done
Or of endless wars we never won
We'll awaken one day and realize
Precious blood was spilled and spent for lies
Be you always faithful, Semper Fi
Believe in them and then go to die
