A long awaited Spring
  'Finally"

Cool steel gray mornings,
  emerge with migrators songs.
And rivers once darkened murk,
  replaced with spawning swarms.

Daffodils wave to the periwinkle,
  as sheep drift up meadows.
The spring sun peaks higher,
  upon the left over snow.

I had counted every snowflake,
  patiently waiting for spring.
As one lonely honeybee takes refuge,
on the same sunny bench with me.

Both of us smelling fresh fragrance,
  of flowery budding trees.
hoping the sun warms enough,
to soon turn them to leaves.

And subterranean dwellers,
peak heads out above the rim.
Rub their eyes and scratch their heads,
  and scamper about again.

Window sash raised; curtains pulled,
and flower pots re-affixed to sills.
Old man winter swept out the door,
and back in; spring air refills.

I had waited out the passing clouds,
  and counted every snowflake.
Finally now I'll stay outside,
to work my shovel and rake.

The dogs bark and children yell,
  and kites of every size.
And life reborn in every form,
  It makes me warm inside.
