He wasn't very fast and couldn't jump logs.
I will no longer see my best buddy Zeke
going through the fields or running by the creek.
I'll miss his wagging tail and cute little face,
he was laid to rest; a very special place.

Jack would bring his dog to the park every day,
gently toss the ball, encourage him to play.
Zeke was quite different than most other dogs,
he wasn't very fast and couldn't jump logs.

You see ol' Zeke was a stray many years back,
he wandered aimlessly by the railroad track.
Zeke hobbled along on three remaining legs,
in search of any scraps or discarded eggs.

Jack took him home on a cold September day,
gave him lots of food and a warm place to stay.
Zeke was the nicest dog I'd seen in the park,
greeting everyone till a little past dark.

Jack helped his friend into the car every night,
traveling back home then returning at light.
They were always seen walking in the city,
wonderful man and the dog some would pity.

Zeke never awoke on a bitter cold morning,
it happened quickly without any warning.
Jack comes to the park but continues to frown,
his head is bent over as the tears pour down.

I read in the newspaper Jack passed away,
of a broken heart is what most people say.
I overlook the park; remember their bond,
pray they are united in the great beyond.
