Hard times letting go
My head bent on your shoulder
Your breath warm on my neck
Our bodies entwined in a long embrace
The quiet cracking of the fire echoing through the swaying trees
The summer breeze dancing around our ankles
Taking our souls circling high into the night sky
Your fingers wrap themselves silently in mine
The stars twinkling in your crystal eyes
Whisper silly sweet nothings in my waiting ears
A soft smile emerges under sad eyes
Tomorrow is waiting to take us away from this peaceful harmony
Your hand caresses my cheek
I close my eyes to feel your energy consume my entire body
I imagine your presence with me always
Running across a lively field, our laughter shrilled in the air
Time wasted away with mindless chatter and sleepless nights
The still photo of illuminated faces fading into darkness
A tear rolls delicately down my cheek as I slowly open my eyes
The gentle glow of the fire stretched across your face
The tenderness of your lips touches to my forehead
And you slowly back away
I'm holding out for something
Reaching into the darkness for your hand
The morning twilight expands across the sky
You're searching my face for some final words
But I can't say goodbye.
