Entry for Daily Flash Fiction challenge.
Nicole gripped the steering wheel tight as she drove down the two-lane road. Her boyfriend just dumped her for her best friend, and the tears wouldn’t stop flowing. She just wanted to get home.

A loud boom sounded, and the car began to pull to the left. Nicole hit the brake pedal slowly, and began the task of steering the car off to the side of the road. A flat tire was the last thing in the world she needed. Stopping the car, she flung open the door and got out. A cold breeze blew, lifting the ugly orange knitted scarf into her face. She grabbed it and threw the end over her shoulder. Wiping her tears and taking a deep breath, she went to see the damage.

Once at the back of the car, she kicked the flat tire with the toe of her boot. Great, she’d have to change it on her own, on the side of the road, and hope that no one came along and hit her. Stuffing her key into the truck lock, she turned and lifted the lid.

Reaching in for the spare, the low rumble of an engine caught her attention. Nicole turned to see a blue pickup truck pulling in behind her. She wrapped her arms across her chest and waited. She could definitely use the help.

Tall, dark and handsome exited the truck with a soft smile. “Looks like you could use a hand.”

Nicole nodded, “Yes, I could.”

He reached into the trunk and pulled the tire out, then set it down. “I’m Jason.”

Nicole smiled, “Nicole. Thanks for doing this.”

“You’re welcome, Nicole.”

She leaned against the car and looked up noticing two white doves perched on the electrical wires and smiled. The lovebirds, she mused.
