OK - Differentiated instruction rules! My second full year as a certified teacher begins with small groups, learning community, two-minute group discussions, work stations, centers, student autonomy, pre-assessment, peer-assessment, and group assessment. As usual, many of the best students transferred out, but we now have a plan to retain our top students - a comprehensive gifted program! It makes me feel so lucky, even though it is just a public school.
9/18 Using things learned in Understanding by Design, I am just teaching the students to present themselves properly, and leaving them to generate their own answers to the big questions. Focusing on protocol and format, I allow them to start out on their authentic path. Then, I can facilitate their decisions.
