A poem that describes the period of my life when weed was all I knew...

Glance away to a lavender sky,
When sun is past and moon is nigh,
The years, the world, they pass me by,
But I’m still high, oh I’m still high.

See the sparks of crystal white,
As diamonds bleat in gleaming light,
The stars, the sky, they pass me by,
But I’m still high, oh I’m still high.

Pyres mark such dwindled lives,
On tear-soaked earth with pesky flies,
The names, the tales, they pass me by,
But I’m still high, oh I’m still high.

Songs and words that glow and dim,
Their power flows like ageless hymn,
The verses old, they pass me by,
But I’m still high, yes I’m still high.

Stories roll with ceaseless zest,
Where untold wisdom comes to rest,
The elder souls, they pass me by,
But I’m still high, yes I’m still high.

Jokes and quips all full of wit,
Laughter, tongues, and tempered grit,
These times of jest, they pass me by,
But I’m still high, yes I’m still high.

Friends and foes that once were near,
Vanished from a heart so dear,
Those memories, they pass me by
For I am high, why I am high.

Children croon for sound advice,
Their eyes, their lips, so fair and nice,
These little ones, they pass me by,
For I am high, why I am high.

A chance for love, a chance for pain,
A chance to grasp what’s real and sane,
These chances missed, they pass me by,
For I am high, why I am high.

In the end, when done is done,
When years have passed to wither fun,
When time has ticked and tocked its way,
Their voices, yes, they’ll break the fray.

In the end, when good is none,
They’ll look with hate to make their claims,
They’ll drop their gavels, scream their blames,
They’ll hiss, they’ll point, their reprimands.

In the end, when all is lost,
When worlds collide and joy is gone,
They’ll look to you to help them fawn,
To save themselves, to rise at dawn.

And you’ll see days, and faded nights,
You’ll remember times of wrongs and rights,
Staring deep into their eye,
Sorry, you’ll say, but I was high.

But I was high, oh I was high.
When sun was past and moon was nigh,
Beneath that darkened midnight sky,
When years and lives, they passed me by,
Yes I was high, oh I was high.
