I sat on our swing
reading my favorite book
for the seventh, maybe eighth time
The pages were worn
from the usage and
were starting to fall apart
I sat there in my peace trying to forget
the world and what had happened
I hear shouts coming from inside,
I run into the woods
to find that one place where no one
could reach me,
I hear the river
before my eyes let me see it,
Wandering up the shore,
feeling the sand on my feet
I find another quiet place,
It won't last long
he will come find me,
he will punish me,
but I keep to my path,
I find a pool
it's deep enough to swim,
so I shed all but my shorts and hop in
it's icy to the touch,
but I let it numb me
if I let it control me,
maybe I can find the one place I belong
somewhere away from the fights,
away from the pain
and blood,
maybe I can just swim forever,
never to look back,
I let myself stop,
I sink,
I feel the icy coolness
invade my lungs
and I see the place
of my dreams,
I'm home
