An 18 year old airhostess starts her first day of work, but will it be perfect for her? |
“May day, May day! This message is from flight no. 12A. Please reply…” What else was I supposed to do? Being a newly recruited, eighteen year old airhostess, I could never handle a whole passenger plane. The masked man had his gun pointed towards me. Through the windscreen, I saw a mountain looming ahead. It all started when I was serving coffee to the passengers of the plane. As it was my first day as a fully-fledged airhostess, I was very excited. I offered coffee to a certain man seated near the aisle. He suddenly caught hold of my wrist. As I tried to free myself, I saw a dagger glistening at his other hand. I let out a scream. Four other similar men stood up with hostages. The hijackers held knives around the victims’ throats. The man who held me seemed to be the chief. I tried to free my self but failed, he was very strong. He cleared his throat and started to speak; “I request all the passengers to remain calm. Any wrong move from any of you, would mean danger to them”, he pointed to the hostages. “And you,” he told me,” will come with me.” I softly said my prayers as I was led towards the cockpit. The pilot had been injured, as he had refused to fly the airplane according to the wishes of the hijackers. Now, I was sitting at the pilot’s seat, aimless of what to do next. The sight of the mountain in front of me scared me to no end. I felt the cold nozzle of the gun against my scalp. Shivers went through my body. “Come on, girl, you can do it. Fly the plane over the mountain. If the plane crashes then it will be your fault. Imagine so many lives lost just for you…..” The masked man gave out a ruthless laugh. I knew that he was trying to make me angry. He knew that my sense of loyalty would never let me put so many lives at danger. I felt like punching his stomach as hard as possible but my fear kept me down. As the mountain came nearer, my mind went numb. Then suddenly it struck me. If I pulled the steering bar upwards then the airplane would automatically fly up, yet it would be a very big risk. I caught hold of the bar and pulled it upwards. We were pushed backwards by the invisible force and I kept praying fervently. The plane just managed to pull itself up and we did not crash. A great relief swept over me. I could sense that the masked man was also very relieved. He started speaking the moment we were saved. “Good, now you will fly us to…” “I don’t think so.” I turned to find a young woman, dressed in jeans, pointing a pistol towards the masked hijacker. She took out an identity card. “Air marshal, Anita Oberoi from the Indian army and I would like to see your hands up. Do no try any tricks as your men are already arrested by my group.” The man looked around helplessly and surrendered his gun. Anita looked at me and said, “Thank You….” She wanted to say something else but I passed out. When I woke up, I was still on the plane. Anita informed me that a member of her group was a trained pilot and was flying us right back to the country. “You know,” she said,” we are the first all-woman air marshal group to protect a plane. If you had not flown the plane and avoided the crash, then our mission would not have been successful. I thank you on behalf of the whole Indian army.” “You need not say that”, I replied” I was so frightened that I was ready to do anything. Any ways, mountain monsters will haunt my dreams for the next few days.” We both started laughing. No one back on the earth could imagine what had happened in airplane no. 12A and to a certain eighteen year old airhostess called Medha………. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ those of you who have read this then please read and review Malgal' story on 'life of Mandy Camber" ............ .. please !!! |
