love, lust, first night together
The heat gave way to a cool night
Where the sky was black and the moon was bright
I stood before you on the asphalt with butterflies inside
Neither of us said what was really on our minds
I followed you as you pulled out onto the vacant road
I can't remember what I felt as on and on I drove
We finally parked in front of your place
And as I got out of my car, my heart began to race
We made it up your steps and onto your floor
You showed me to your room and went behind a different door
I changed quickly and wondered about the night ahead
In my mind, I went over every word that you'd said
You knocked and I turned the knob and followed your track
You were shirtless and I saw the tattoo on your back
I was so nervous, but I tried to act fine
As I watched you pull some towels off of the line
The water felt warm as we lowered ourselves in
We were talking when I felt your hands on my skin
You looked at me and pressed your lips against mine
And that's how we stayed for such a long time
Under the stars, in the dark of the night
I wrapped my arms around you and held on so tight
Those few minutes turned into many hours too soon
You took my hand, our fingers all pruned
Your words rang in my head as you held open the door
Those words that no one had ever said to me before
