A fun little poem about the true fuel of life...coffee!
AN ODE TO COFFEE
By: Phillip Martine Inwood
(Also known as Adam P. Rothstein)

Blessed is the coffee that rests in my cup,
Transforms my morning monster into a bright, cheery pup,
Though once fast asleep, I am now fully up,
Coffee begins my day.

Some men will sell you a stock, or a bond,
Blessed by Barbiturates, of which they seem fond,
They drown out their stresses in an alcoholic pond,
But coffee begins their day.

Others’ livelihood depends on a broom and a mop,
Their collars colored blue, they’re far from a fop,
Though they work until death, they seldom reach the top,
But coffee begins their day.

Many choose to teach, they educate our young,
Though a terrible shame, these heroes are quite often unsung,
Bulletin boards become graveyards where projects once hung,
But coffee begins their day.

When Serpico comes knockin’, a lawyer can help your cause,
Freeing murderers and monsters as they receive copious applause,
The arm of the law cannot hold you, neither its hand, nor its jaws,
But coffee begins their day.

Our politicians are not righteous, but the privileged of the land,
Their impact no greater than markings in the sand,
They have long forgotten that for which they stand,
But coffee begins their day.

There is one thing that unites us, come one and all,
Though some be good hearted and others smug,
And even if pride does come before the fall,
It does not precede the steamy liquid in my mug.
