Patience is earned, and no virtue
One last piece in a brilliant puzzle. Both shapely and wide but humbling in pattern.
Of all lost eyes in tired rings of coffee cups we wait. Just on last piece, yes, one last piece and we can just witness its completion, bathe in its stillness and fear what will become.
So Valuable the land it occupies, with dinner parties, and birthdays.

Such unsustainable beauty in an awkward land.

Now this last piece, one last piece, you hold in the palm of your hand, its shape shifting and writhing with opportunity. I watch as your blue eyes scan the world, watching you read the never-ending book of opportunity. The tremble of your eyes plays your voice false! You know this piece as you know your own heart. What it would be what events would collapse and give way to the heavenly chemical reaction of the universe.

Suddenly doubt. In my mind or yours? As I start questioning the words in your head. As you start to question the things that you’ve said.

Bullets of time stop short of murder as they drop to the floor with the movement of your hand. The thwap! of the puzzle piece laid with purpose on the table - the air is hard to swallow as I watch the lifeless tile sit next to the unfinished work.

The meaningless individual piece lay there, knowing its grand design with painful resistance and corn starch air boils.

With moment to spare you flex your eyes at me. The grandeur of the cosmos twinkle in them. With dense perplexities you contemplate my reaction. The chaos of the atmosphere leaves you ready – you offer me a smile.

With no mountain as deep bedrock as the unmoveable situation, realization, the conversation turns to me.
To me.
To me?

I’m not ready for that, when I mind plotted so far ahead, how is it to retreat? I offer a smile and look to the murk of my mug. Still some time slides. I smile

Commit, finally, the loin of my voice is dead and the coal of my receded defeat collides with lit splendour of your eyes. I smile.
It was the saddest smile in my entire life.
