TO ANGEL ALQUIZA

"Blessed are the innocent, for they shall see God..." (Matthew 5:8)

Blessed are you who knew nothing of evil,
who only knew compassion and gentleness
until those monsters came
to show you what violence, callousness,
and relentless cruelty mean.

They who violated your body
have defiled their own souls.

They who deprived you
of many more years on earth
have denied themselves
of an eternity in heaven.

Those ears that were deaf to your desperate cries
now ring from the damning voice of conscience.

But you Angel, are in the company of your namesakes.

Though dead on earth,
you are alive in heaven
as your murderers are dead in heaven
but alive on earth.

God has replaced your broken body
with a robe of light
and a pair of wings.
