Because I’m Black By Matt Shaw It has been said, “if you strive for success you’ll Receive Success” But if you are black it’s best to stay behind with the rest In today’s world blacks are viewed as monkeys There to entertain and please the honkys Blacks are seen as animals displayed in a zoo This zoo I can no longer stand to be in I hate this stamp that has been placed on my skin I hate those who accept and live in denial Why must I be heard as only a rapper? Why must I be feared as if I’m a gangster? Because I am Black I can not be trusted Because I am Black I can not be heard “Because I am Black, because I am Black” It doesn’t make sense because I am Black Black in this world is dark, deadly, and demonic While white and everything light is heavenly and ironic Does the color of skin demand who I am If so than call me Dark Chocolate with cranial filling A Chocolate Cake with the chunky peanut butter icing I call myself human for it is only true race I don’t try to be Gangster I don’t want that life I don’t want to be chased by the cops Or rep the streets like it’s my home Cause it ain’t Why must I be seen as only a crook? Why must I be treated so differently? Why must I live within this lie? And why should I continue to fight it? Because I am Black |
