Its about how I felt the first time my father went to Iraq
I woke up in the morning and I'm wondering...
Is he still alive?
I brushed my teeth wondering...
Will he be able to brush his teeth again?
I comb and straighten my hair while I'm wondering...
Will he ever need another hair cut?
I go to the kitchen to make myself something to eat wondering...
When was the last time he ate?
I go to school wondering...
Will he be able to see me graduate?
I get home from school and I wonder...
Will he be here on my last day of school?

Later on that night he calls,
But in a hushed voice...
He asked me how was my day...
How was school...
And if I was being a big girl for mom...
Next thing I know I hear noices in the background..
Like a police car or a firetruck...
He says he loves me and mom...
He says he'll talk to us later...
And hangs up the phone.

Before I go to sleep I'm wondering...
Will he be alive when I wake up?
Will he brush his teeth again?
Will he ever need another hair cut?
Will he eat again?
Will he see me graduate?
Will he be here on my last day of school?

I wake up in the morning,
From the sound of tears in my mother's room.
I ask her what is wrong...
She says nothing...
That dad is coming home soon.

I cry tears of joy...
And I think I'll have him forever.
But I found out 2 weeks ago...
He'll be heading over again...
So I have to keep wondering
