the king's horses and all the king's men have been weighed and measured and found wanting
your heart is like an ocean
tossing:turning:foaming at the mouth
a rabid dog; a madman
the whole world knows it
SCREAM SILENTLY INSIDE THOUGH
scream silently inside
and know you want to
and know you can't help it
and know you're afraid
so afraid
to let it be the same
to let it be different
so
you wave
and beat
and beat on the sand with the orbit of the moon
and leave live pieces of yourself behind
live pieces
little pieces
pretty pieces for little girls to trample
and old girls to collect
and hope that
when you finally stop leaving residue on the beach
and
when you finally try to give it intentionally
that there will be something left
anything left
but there will be nothing left
nothing left
O NOTHING LEFT!
nothing left at all but sand and salt water
that drain from your eyes so blind
so blind that you can't see you're blind
so you try to walk out the door of the mile high building
and end up flying through dead reefs
and open mouth caves that swallow you whole and spit you out the other end
spit you out
something more
and
something less
and
something else
but with nothing left
