This Poem Dedicated to my Real-Life Herd of Horses, my inspiration for all horse poems. |
HERD MENTALITY ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** They follow where the skies roam themselves nomads of the pasture seas ships that float across endless, rolling green inside whispers of a playful breeze. Moonlight adrift dappled backs velvet muzzles pressed to pungent Earth colts follow within embrace of shadows quiet rain a drink of Gods bestowed. Instinct drives the grazing need into woodlands far and deep creeks alight their tongues with cool respite branches canopy rays from tumbled beam. Sounds divulge with twitching of their ears soulful eyes upon the Alpha mare met with ease the chant of hooves drift in meadows steep composure gained in numbers while safety sleeps. New dawn, new day; they make their migrant way along wind-swept banks and hills of country ravines content within the song of whinnies soft snorts and squeals attest to wisdom’s cure. I hear their passage rumble through canyon turfs coming to greet this human awaiting their entourage my sadness abated briefly upon singular touch until they return to equine domains I cannot reach. Knowing it was I who missed them more than their wandering hearts so free that fondly, yet so faintly remember me . . . |
