The trials and tribulations of living with a black cat

MY POOR FRED

He never knew what hit him. Since it was raining all day, most of the mob were inside. Cats were scattered around the house, either in the front bedroom watching TV with me or in the back office on the windowsill staring outside.

A few minutes ago, I came into my office to do some computer stuff and sat down on my black chair. Thanks goodness I have good reflexes for there was something else black on the chair, hidden from me in the dim light of the computer.

I've been groveling ever since for sitting on my big black monster of a cat, Fred. Poor baby! Emotionally, it might have scarred him for life after having his human carelessly sit on him. Physically, he could be a bit flatter than before.

FRED GETS EVEN

He mugged me! He may have meant it as a hug, but he definitely mugged me. There I was, innocently leaning forward, trying to read the light green print of a post on a message board. Suddenly, a long black leg reached out, and sharp white claws hooked the collar of my bathrobe. His other front paw reached up and tangled itself in my hair. Inch by inch, he pulled my head down until my nose was touching the keyboard. With my robe and head both held tightly, but painlessly, Fred slowly leaned forward and stared into my exposed right eye. If I didn't know that he didn't have a mean bone in his body, I might have been terrified to be in such a helpless position.

I don't know if I've mentioned it, but Fred is a BIG cat, long and sleek like a miniature panther. There I was eye to eye with a cat whom I had sat on and almost squashed just a day ago and wondering if he was going to take his revenge. Ever so slowly, he drew closer to my face. As I worked feverishly to untangle his claws from my robe and hair, he leaned forward, ever closer to my keyboard-jammed nose and gave it a quick swipe with his sandpaper tongue.

I swear my eyes crossed in relief when I realized he was not going to maim me for life but just wanted to kiss me.
