An expression of love to my son.
God blessed me with my only son on the fourth day of a new year,
Soft brown hair and big bright eyes he was for sure a dear;
In the first month in his new world he was almost taken away,
Through faith and prayer and all the tears Our Lord let him stay;
Sometimes a fellow doesn't grasp what he has until it is almost lost,
And the fee for such ignorance comes at such a heavy cost;
So then were the first steps and words, such a special event,
Indeed were the times teaching him right from wrong well spent;
For its been ten plus years now since that little boy graced my being,
Yet I still find myself at times not saying to him what I am feeling;
Be it due to hectic schedules or just that knot inside the head,
I don't always tell him how much I love him and all that should be said;
It pains me that I sometimes miss those only chances to tuck him in,
Or to pick him up, brush away the tear and rub his bruised shin;
I searched for a way to express it all and not have any doubt,
After it all I guess that I have now figured it out;
With all that life throws at one its often hard to find the time,
And so it is that I best tell him of my love through rhyme.
