Sometimes we make choices, and sometimes we choose not to.
we came bearing palms,
my good eye shot open -
abandoned, considered; agreement, belied
broken hands holding to reigns (on dasher)
we smiled, lips split, saccharine-stiffened eyes

I dehydrate of country
of hawks and dead bodies
mosspiles in desert and fear-posing trees
electrical currents, our hearts stretched thin-wired
my skin died in tulsa. yours split for the breeze.

in the night I see caves
and valleys, and cattle,
I yearn for the darkness yet stay in the light
afraid of my choices, I make them unbridled
hurtling down freeways
arms stretched out of sight

come with me, come with me,
I don't even want you.
together in moonlight, all memory outrun
touching is sadness, all cats and all felines
claws bared and cancerous from days in the sun

my heart brakes for airlines,
yours breaks for --  (no matter)
I mix love in beakers to pour down the drain
we ranger our forests, make hard our soft science
sometimes it's in waking we find sleep again
