Original Poem that was turned into a song by Theresa Kiefer |
My Daddy never got it together. he never held a job for too long. He used to visit with me every Sunday then, all at once, he just moved on. Well, I never got a letter from him. Ah,but, now I think I understand. When you're hanging from the bottom rung it's kinda hard to lend a hand. Well, I talked to Grandma, just today. She called to say that Daddy had died. And, through her tears, she told me that he'd left behind...his beautiful, lonely eyes! And we both found some comfort in knowing, that, although his painful life was now through, he had given in death more than he ever could in life! Two precious gems of untold value! My Daddy's eyes were always filled with sorrow. I guess they've cried a million tears, as he paid for a few bad decisions he had made down through the years. Ah, but, now they'll sparkle with a new glow and hope for one who once was blind, one who now will see his own little children smiling up into their Daddy's new eyes! Yeah, the sorrow is gone and new happiness lives on... shining through my Daddy's eyes! Shining through my Daddy's eyes! |
