The higher your hopes, the harder they fall.
My hopes were way up there,
Soaring in the stratosphere.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Fying, leaving the world behind.

They were fueled by dreams untrue
Nevertheless they grew.
Higher, higher still.
Numb to truth's harsh chill.

Oblivious, blinded, ignorant,
Ignoring warnings God sent.
Operating on intuition.
Relying on selfish ambition.

Everyone watching knew,
That the higher that they flew,
The harder they would fall.
This was known to all.

To all, that is, but me.
Well, I knew, and didn't see.
I lost sight of what was true,
And of who truly cared for me too.

So as my dreams deflated,
I learned love was overrated.
Despite the utmost highs they cause,
They're contradicted by gravitational laws.
