Too Late For Love?

Sammantha was anxiously looking at the time before her class would be over. "20

minutes" she replied. She looked at her friend Ciara and whispered "The teacher is

so boring." Ciara laughed out as the teacher was finally closing things up. He said

they need to be ready for the test next Wednesday. As they were walking across

campus Sam was thinking to herself as Ciara was talking away. Sam didn't really

pay attention to what Ciara was saying, but she pretended to. The only person

Sam had on her mind at the moment was Cassie. She could not wait to get home

to call her. Cassie was pretty much the reason why Sam has not killed herself.

Cassie has been in her life since they were little kids in kindergarten. Ciara asked

Sam "what time do you finish with class today?" Sam replied "that was actually

my only one! I'm going to go home now, and take a nap." Ciara say "Okay" as

Sam began to walk back to her dorm room. When she finally made it she threw her

backpack on the ground and picked up the phone. She immediately called Cassie

to ask what she was doing this weekend. Cassie replied "I'm going out to a party,

would you like to come with?" Sam replied back really fast and said "Definitely!"

Cassie said "Awesome, pick me up around 8 tonight you can stay the night as

well." Sam said "Okay" and they hung up.

Sam hung around her dorm until it was 7:30 and since Cassie lived about 20

minutes away from her, she left her dorm to pick her up. Sam loves to be early

especially because she would be able to hang out with Cassie at her house for an

extra 10 minutes anyways. As she was driving to Cassie's house she had a

strange feeling in her stomach. She was very nervous, as she always is whenever

she is around Cassie. When Sam finally pulled into Cassie's parents driveway she

walked slowly up to the door, and rang the bell. Patti (Cassie's mom) answered,

she delightfully said "Hello Sam how is school?" Sam said "It's good thank you!"

Patti yelled to Cassie that Sam was there. Cassie told her to send her up to her

room. Patti looked at Sam and said you know where it is go ahead. Sam thanked

Patti, and walked up the stairs to her room. Cassie's room was already opened,

and as she turned to walk in Cassie was there with no shirt on. Sam turned around

and said "OMG, I'm so sorry" Cassie replied "It's Okay, nothing you haven't seen

before." Sam sat on Cassie's bed as she waited for her to get dressed. Sam

muttered you are really slow at getting dressed. Cassie looked at her and

said "Well I have to look pretty for the party." Sam whispered "You are beautiful

already." Cassie looked and said did you say something? Sam's face turned bright

red as she said nevermind. Soon Cassie was finally ready to go.

When Cassie and Sam arrived to the party they quickly picked up a couple of

beers. Sam ran out to the dance floor and started to go crazy dance. Cassie sat

down and watched as Sam had tons of guys crowd around her. Cassie thought to

herself "I wish she would be interested in me, of course she does not even know I

am a lesbian." Sam has been out to her family, and most of her friends in college.

The only person she has not told is Cassie. Sam has been in love with Cassie ever

since her Freshman year of college. She has been dealing with the love for 3 years

already. Sam says to herself "I am going to tell her tonight, no matter what." John,

Ryan, and Brian walked up to Sam and asked her if Cassie knows yet. Sam

looked down at the floor, and responded "No, I am going to tell her tonight though."

The three of them said "Good Luck." Sam replied "Thanks I'll need it." Later that

night Sam looked at her watch and noticed it's two o'clock in the morning. Cassie's

mother is going to kill her. Sam ran to the dance floor to grab Cassie as they ran

out of the club. As Sam drove home Cassie asked "Is something bothering you

tonight?" Sam looked over and responded "No, why do you ask?" Cassie said well

usually when we party you come out and dance too, but you didn't tonight, Why?"

Sam replied "my period is here, it came as soon as we arrived, as she lied through

her teeth." Cassie said "oh, well if you want you can stay the night tonight so you

won't have to drive back home." Sam replied "Sure if your mom will be okay."

When Sam and Cassie came through the door, sure enough Patti asked "where

the hell have you two ladies been?" She looked at Cassie and said "you know your

curfew time, you are now grounded for a week." She looked over at Sam and told

her to go on home. Cassie immediately was pissed, and said "Mom, please can

she stay? She's having cramps and doesn't want to drive home." Her mom looked

at Sam, as she began to fake up some tears. Patti finally agreed, Sam thanked her.

As Sam and Cassie began to change to their pajamas, Sam said I think I'll go

change in the bathroom Cassie. Cassie replied, "I've seen you naked before what's

the big deal?" Sam said "can we talk about this later please?" Cassie agreed, as

Sam walked to the restroom down the hallway. When Sam came back into the

room, Cassie was already in the bed. As she looked over, she noticed she had

already drifted off to sleep. Sam walked over and gave Cassie a small kiss on the

cheek, then hopped in the bed to slowly drift off into a deep sleep.

Sam and Cassie both awoke the next morning to the smell of pancakes which

happens to be both their favorites. They quickly jumped out of bed and ran

downstairs. Patti smiled and said "You two are finally up?" She told them to come

have a seat and eat some breakfast. Soon after Patti's cell phone rang as she

picked it up and walked into the other room. Sam sat their quietly trying to figure

out how she was going to tell Cassie. Patti's mom ran into the kitchen and said to

Cassie she needed to leave, the hospital called her in because they are a nurse

short. Cassie said "Okay, but can Sam stay awhile?" Her mom said "you know

you are going to be grounded young lady?" Cassie said "I know, but can I just be

grounded next week?" Her innocent look, changed her mom's mind. She

replied "Sure she can stay, but you are not leaving this house tonight." Cassie

replied, "that's okay, we'll just watch a movie!" Patti kissed Cassie on the cheek

and quickly ran out the front door. Cassie looked over at Sam and said what do you

want to watch tonight? Sam responded "have you ever seen Better than

Chocolate?" Cassie was puzzled, scratched her head and said "No I don't think

so." Sam replied "I heard it is a good movie, I have it and I brought it with me

actually." Cassie replied "Awesome, now I'm going to take a shower. Sam

said "okay", as her voice trembled. About a half hour later, Cassie came out of the

shower, and said Sam you can take one now. Sam walked off to take a shower.

Later that night, Sam grabbed "Better than Chocolate" out of her bag and popped it

into the DVD player. They both sat down on the couch and began to watch it. They

laughed, they cried, they enjoyed it overall. After the movie was over, Cassie had a

surprised look on her face. Sam looked over and said "I need to tell you

something." Cassie replied "okay what's up?" Sam's heart was beating really fast,

her stomach was in knots, she looked over at Cassie and said "I'm a lesbian."

Cassie was quiet, she just looked at her, and said "how long have you known

this?" Sam replied "since freshman year of college." Cassie said "that's 3 years

ago!" Sam says "I know, I was scared to tell you." "Mom already knows, and so

does everybody in my college, you are the last one I needed to tell." Cassie hugs

Sam tightly. Sam can her heart pounding against Cassie's body. When Cassie

finally lets go, Sam says "there's more I need to tell you." Cassie responds "Great!

More news that I'm the last to know about." Sam says "No, actually this one...you

are the first to know...I've kept it a secret from everyone! Including my mom!"

Cassie looks and says "Well it must be big if you haven't told your mom yet." Sam

says "Yes, I Love You" Cassie says "I know silly I Love You Too." Sam says, "No I

mean real Love, as in I want to be with you Love." Sam looks at Cassie, she has a

very surprising look on her face. Sam moves towards Cassie's face and kisses her.

Sam says "I have been wanting to tell you, but the only reason I didn't tell you any

of this, is because I don't want you to fall in love with me." Cassie looks at her with

a puzzled look, and says "I thought you wanted to be together?" Sam replies, "No,

I can't be with you Cassie. I'm dying." Cassie has tears dribbling down her eyes.

She says "What? wait dying? How? From what?" Sam responds, I have Lukemia,

the doctors just diagnosed me with this last year. They told me then that I had

about 3 years to live. Cassie says well we can be together for 3 years then. Sam

says "that's what I thought to, but I went to the doctor last week, and they told me I

only have a month, maybe less." Sam tears are falling, and Cassie's tears are

falling. They hug each other. Cassie kisses Sam they begin to go further and

further.

Patti comes home and walks up to Cassie's room to make sure she is in her bed.

She walks in and sees both Cassie and Sam asleep in each other's arms. She

thinks nothing of it, as she closes the door, and heads off to bed. The next morning

Sam and Cassie wake up they go downstairs to see Patti sitting at the kitchen

table. Cassie kisses her mom on the cheek and says "Mom we need to talk." Patti

turns off the television. She looks at both Sam and Cassie and says "what's going

on?" Cassie looks at Sam and says "would you like her to tell or me?" Sam

replies, "I can do it." Sam walks over to Patti and says "First of all, I am a lesbian."

She goes on to tell her how she has known for 3 years, but was afraid to tell

Cassie and her mom. Then she says next, I am in love with your daughter Cassie.

She goes on to say how she has been in love with her for the passed 3 years, but

was afraid to tell her because she didn't want to ruin their friendship. Finally, she

says I have Lukemia. She goes on to tell her how her time is limited and the

doctors have only given her a month or less to live. By this time, Patti has tears

falling down her eyes. They are speechless. Everything goes quiet....

The next morning, Cassie awakes to Sam sleeping right next to her. She looks

over to hug her, and notices she is not moving. She quickly

screams "MOM!" "MOM!" "MOM!" Patti runs up the stairs, she checks Sam's

breathing, and begins to try CPR. She yells to Cassie to call 911. She keeps

trying, but there is no luck. When the ambulence arrive they tell Cassie and Patti

there is nothing they can do. Cassie begins to cry as she runs to her room. Her

mom comes up to her room to help soothe her, but she pushes her away. A couple

of days later, they are getting dressed to go to Sam's funeral. Everybody from

Sam's school goes to the funeral. Cassie looks around, and thinks about how

popular Sam really was. When they ask if anyone has any words to say, Cassie is

the first to go up. She has tears coming down her eyes. She says "My dearest

Sam, You were taken away from this world by Lukemia, there was nothing any of

us could do. We all will miss you especially me. You had time to come out to me,

it was only enough time for you to tell me that you loved me. I wish we could finish

the last day. You told my mom that you were a lesbian, that you were in love with

me, and that you had cancer all in one day. The only problem was I didn't get to

say I love you too! I love you more then just a friend. I love you and I wish we could

have been together. I know life is going to be hard without you being here with me

but I know that while you are in Heaven you will help me get through each day. I

just got accepted to Yale University. I think that is a big help to you. I never thought

I would make it into college, let alone a really good college. You will be in my heart

forever! *I Love You Sam*
