A free verse poem about trying to improve any dark situation by doing your small part. |
The storm arrived with malevolent fury, leaving a trail of darkness and destruction upon its departure. Despair filled the blackness of the night, as survivors, wet and shivering, huddled together for comfort and safety. All seemed ruined … but then, in the far-off darkness, suddenly appeared the light of a single candle. The tiny, flickering flame brought renewed hope, as it pierced the dark void like a searchlight’s beam. Somehow the survivors instinctively knew that the light meant a better tomorrow would follow this cruel night. If only we all would choose to light a candle in every dark situation … to ignite one small candle to pierce the blackness of despair, to offer hope and encouragement, to show others we are there for them, to promise that tomorrow will bring them comfort and improvement, to take a stand against the world’s evil, and mostly to make ourselves matter. Imagine if we were to stand united, shoulder to shoulder, holding thousands, upon thousands of glowing candles … just imagine!
