I have long believed that when we dream we enter another world. |
Last night I had a dream. I awoke in my dream to find I was a caterpillar just out of the egg. Imagine my surprise to find I had so many legs! Instinct I didn't know I possesed took over and I was moving up a branch. All I could think of was up, down, up, down. I knew I was hungry but didn't know what was good to eat. Again instinct took over and soon I was very full. The dream jumps to me as a bigger caterpillar and I must assume that to get this big I was able to avoid predators. The only one I couldn't avoid was a boy who plucked me from my branch and stuck me in a jar. Thankfully he also put some leaves in there too. I watched him poke some holes in the lid of the jar and took me inside to show his mother. Within a few days a strange feeling came over me and I wasn't hungry anymore. I found a leaf that would suit my purpose and began spinning my cocoon. It took some time to cover my body in this fine silken thread. By morning I was completely encased. Again the dream jumps and I feel very confined. I must get out of my cocoon. I begin chewing my way out. The hole I have created appears big enough and I wiggle my way out. I feel strange as I stretch. I look over my shoulder and see limp, damp wings. I don't feel as big or clumsy as before either. I fan my wings to dry them only to find I am still trapped in the jar. The boy shows me to his mother who explains the he should set me free now or I will die. He takes me outside and opens the jar. I perch on the rim to gather my courage and he pokes at me with a finger. It startles me and soon I am flying. As the dream ends I look back at the boy who has a far away look on his face as if he is dreaming of flying with me. |
