Poem I wrote when I was thinking about VA Tech shooting--sorry if the iambic meter's off |
This poem was inspired by the Virginia Tech shooting--I pray for peace for those who were lost and my heart goes out to their families. May their loved ones that were lost rest safe and warm in God's loving embrace. When hatred boils and love is not found When cheeks are not turned Death and violence abounds When we forget in childhood What we first learned Treat others as you would like to be treated Kind words are stronger then cruel ones Let the urge to hurt another be defeated By the beauty that comes when someone Smiles Love is a gift one should readily share A fist is darkness a hug is the light Show always someone that you care Better to hug a friend then an enemy Fight Kindness soars and hatred falls Love reaches and hate misses We're all brothers and sisters So be kind to all And respect each other's wishes A smile is golden and a glare is black A heart beats faster when filled with bliss Hurtful actions can't be taken back No matter how hard you wish So love one another Love raises the soul And hatred drains the heart With a smile and a gesture Of kind will Harmony can start |
