The Masterpiece

Colours are flying.

Bright and vibrant,
Intense and exciting,
Dull and unimaginative,
Wild and adventurous.

All different.
All unique.
All beautiful.

A mirage
Of unholy alliances
And perfect matches,

And the strangest combinations are formed.

The palette clatters,
The axel groans,
The tap water drips,
The canvas rustles.

But
Nothing
Exists.

Only in my mind.

Blank vastness lies before my eyes.

No paint,
No colour,
No sound.

Not even the faintest hint.

Just
Simple
Honest
Whiteness.

A sheet of pure, untainted enormity.

It taunts.

It teases.

It craves for those flying colours.
It craves for those exotic sounds.

Why so?
I wonder.

Tongue between teeth,
Eyes sparkling,
Expression passive,
Fingers twitching.

And finally I put paintbrush to paper.

Colours are flying.

But only in my mind.

With a flourish,
The paintbrush drops,
Admiring its own handiwork.

One miniscule scarlet dot
Amidst a cosmic
And expansive
Blankness.

A Masterpiece.
