What if your writing didn't have the effect you wanted, what if it caused death.
The Deep End

The clock was made of silver metal; the glass face was fractured from being

thrown across the room. It seemed ages ago to, the young man, that he had

started staring at that clock. Time moved more slowly than anticipated these days,

it seemed. He sat in a chair made of red fabric that had faded over the long years.

On the ground directly in front of him was a book, the cover said “My Stories of

Suicide.” He had contemplated his death before, but never found the courage to do

it. What if? What if it only took a book about the horrors of suicide to make him do

it? Could it be a possibility that he wanted to cause someone that much pain, and

that a simple book could show him how much pain he really could cause without

feeling any pain himself, at least not after.

Many people write about their dealings with suicide, suicide in their family, a

close friend or distant relative. They describe how they will never forget it, that

everyday they feel the pain. Have these people ever stopped to think, what if. What

if their, stories caused someone to actually do it, instead of persuading them not to

do it? Life is full of these surreal cases; he or she cannot completely know how

they have influenced another. Therefore, could it be an option that the author of

such a story actually influenced such an act?

His pain was so real inside that he didn’t even feel alive anyway. Life was just

a fleeting moment to him now. He had been talking about killing himself for some

time and a friend suggested this book to him. “What a waste of time,” he said to

himself when he received the book. This was just another attempt to try to ease his

depression, but the fact was it could only be healed in time, not with a book. When

he got home, he started reading the book and time stood still it seemed. All was

lost in his heart and his soul. He began to read the book and think about his lost

life, his lost soul. Something caught his attention in the book. “The pain has stayed

with me forever; I will never be the same person again. I hurt inside everyday.”

That’s what he wanted her too feel like. She had caused him so much pain, and he

didn’t think he could ever get over it. This was just the reason for him to do such an

act. He wanted her to always feel the pain.

This is my story, a story of pain, a story that has griped my heart. Sometimes

we forget that people are truly hurting; all they need is that one nudge to make them

fall off the deep end. Could someone be in that much pain? I have been; I used to

dream about death and what pain it would cause the person that had caused me

mine. Maybe all I needed at the time was someone to tell me how much it would

hurt the person that I thought deserved it. The trickery of life is all of this, not

knowing what your stories will truly cause someone to do, or feel. You must be

careful what it is you write; it might not have the effect you want it too. Could this

story happen? I don’t know. Is it likely? I believe it does have a strong possibility. Is

it a likely outcome that the boy in this story will end his life just to hurt someone

else’s; is there really a pain that could cause someone to do such a horrible thing

without thinking it through? I almost did. I just didn’t have the right push, push off

the deep end.
