A short poem about the abolishment of Slavery in Great Britain
In 1807, William Wilberforce opened our eyes,
But not just our eyes, our hearts also.
We British were keen slave drivers.
But then it stopped.

Good old Will told us all,
“Compared to God, we are small”.
That was when he knew it for sure,
“Slavery should be abolished in this country Britain!”

No, the whole world should learn from this,
But others did not listen.
1807 – 5 million slaves.
2007 – 20 million slaves.

The slave threat continues to this day,
And we might never see an end to it.
All we can do is believe,
And eventually, it will end.

This shows we have not learned a thing from the past,
We will not show a good example in the future,
But only our greed. Our greed will last.
