The Ugly Patch

That Ugly Patch


I drive by this certain patch of grass every day.

I hardly ever notice it.

Likely no one does

It's frankly pretty ugly.

I know its ugly.

Everyone knows it's ugly..

It has been ugly for a long time.

But it is still there.

It still exists.

No one bothers.

No one notices.

No one cares

But it is still there.

Existing.

Tomorrow I am going to buy some seeds

A mixture of wildflowers

Of all shapes, size, and colour.

I'm going to stop there at that ugly spot

Because no one will bother

Because no one will notice

Because no one will care

But I do, and I'm going there.

I will scatter the seeds over that ugly patch of land

And watch as the beauty takes form

I will watch as others realize and wonder

where the beauty that resides there came from

They will wonder why they never noticed it before

And maybe it will cause some to look back

I will bring beauty to something

Even if its only a small patch of land...

I bet I will see moms taking their babies out for Spring photos

I bet there will be lovers sitting in the middle of that sea of colour for picnics

I bet this ugly transformed into beautiful patch of earth

Will be glad to hold up anyone who wishes to cross

For it has always been there

It has always been strong

It has always had potential for beauty

It only needed someone who cared enough

Someone to plant those seeds

Someone who cared enough to look

and a fertile mind so that they can thrive

and a caring heart

to bother in the first place.

This patch of land that no one cares about, I will bring out the beauty. 

This patch of land that no one noticed before,

will bring pleasant memories to many who haven't a clue.

Something that will live on for a good many years and bring joy,

even if only to a few.....
