The Graveyard

The Graveyard.

         Dean studied Danielle as she gazed emotionlessly at her father’s grave, which lay next to her mother’s. She rested a hand upon her father’s headstone and spoke softly. “I miss you Dad… You shouldn’t have gone after them… not without me.” Her voice broke slightly as she continued, “You left me. You left me and now I have no one.”

         Danielle shook slightly in the evening air, though Dean wasn’t sure if it was out of emotion or the cold. He came to her side, shrugging off his leather jacket and placing it around her shoulders.

         “…You’re not alone…” Dean said softly. “You have Sam and me. You know we’d never let you go through any of this alone.” He wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders.
         

         Danielle looked up at him, a shadow of a grateful smile on her lips. “You’ve always looked out for everyone. Your father, Sam, … me. Who looks out for you?”

         “I do.”
         
         “It shouldn’t be that way. It’s too much for one person, even you.” Danielle replied softly, resting her head on his shoulder.

Yes, this is a part of a much bigger story I'm writing entitled 'The Road Thus Far...'.  I've just been having a bit of a hard time kicking it out so I decided to post one part of it (which takes place towards the beginning), and see what kind of feedback I got.
